Prepare Your Home for Warmer Weather

Spring is here, and warmer weather is beginning to make its way across the country! Is your home ready for the heat of summer? There are several actions you can take to make sure that your home is well prepared for the upcoming seasons.

Schedule an AC tune-up: Having your AC unit inspected and maintained annually is important to ensure it continues to run as efficiently as possible. Your AC technician will clean the AC’s condenser coils, inspect ductwork, tighten electrical connections, and check for any exposed wiring.

Clean or Replace Air Filters: Check and clean or replace the air filters in your HVAC system at least once every 90 days to improve air quality and efficiency. Clogged filters can restrict airflow, making your system work harder and increasing energy costs.

Attic Insulation: Consider updating your home’s attic insulation to keep your house cool during the summer months. The average lifespan of the most commonly used attic insulation is 15-20 years. Updated insulation will not only affect the temperature of your home, but it can also help you save on your power bill by preventing your AC unit from constantly running.

Prepare your Outdoor Living Spaces: Warmer weather will have you wanting to use your outdoor living spaces more frequently. Make sure to clean and pressure-wash these areas so they are readily available for use.

Check on your Roof and Gutters: The summer months can often bring increased rainfall. Ensuring that your roof and gutters can withstand summer storms is important to the safety of your home. Be sure to check your roof for leaks and clean any debris from your gutters.

Check Outdoor Plumbing: If you live in a location with especially cold winters, check the outdoor plumbing on your home as soon as the threat of overnight freezing has passed. Remove any insulators from spigots and restore the water supply.

Inspect and Clean Windows: Clean your windows inside and out to let in more natural light and ensure proper ventilation. Check for any damaged seals or cracks that may need to be repaired to keep cool air in and hot air out.
