For 2023, Pantone chose Viva Magenta, PANTONE 18-1750 TCX, as its Color of the Year. The shade is a close relative to carmine, crimson red, or deep raspberry. Pantone Color Institute executive director Leatrice Eiseman describes the color as “a nuanced crimson red tone that presents a balance between warm and cool, making it what we call a hybrid color.”
Viva Magenta represents a departure from the run-of-the-mill red tone. As intimidating as intense pink-red hues may have been in the past, Pantone believes that consumers are ready to embrace the full spectrum of colors. There are many ways people can incorporate this year’s Pantone color into their homes, from kitchen appliances and glassware to pillows and tabletop accents.
Pantone has also brought Viva Magenta to the metaverse by partnering with AI art tool Midjourney to create an immersive metaverse-like experience that showcases Viva Magenta in all its forms – the Magentaverse. The exhibits are open to the public at Artechouse Miami Beach and Artechouse New York City through May 2023.
