Installing a ceiling fan is an excellent way to keep rooms in your home at a comfortable temperature year round. When choosing a ceiling fan to install, the size is the first thing you should take into consideration. When installed, the fan should be 30 inches or more from walls and 7 feet or more from the floor. The size of the ceiling fan may vary depending on the size of the room. For best air-flow functionality, follow these guidelines :
- Rooms 75 square feet or less should be fitted with a fan that is 29 to 36 inches in diameter
- Rooms 76 to 144 square feet should be fitted with fan that is 36 to 42 inches in diameter
- Rooms 145 to 225 square feet should be fitted with fan that is 44 inches in diameter
- Rooms 226 to 400 square feet should be fitted with fan that is 50 to 54 inches in diameter
We highly suggest hiring a professional if you have not installed a ceiling fan before, as wiring can be dangerous. If you feel comfortable installing a fan by yourself, be sure to follow the manufacturer’s instructions on the box for safety.
