According to a consumer survey from the National Association of Home Builders, energy efficiency is an important factor to many buyers shopping for new-construction homes. After surveying more than 3,000 homebuyers on the most-wanted features in their new home, many buyers said they would choose more sustainable options like the use of more durable building materials. Buyers were also asked about the cost savings of energy efficient features, to which many responded that they were willing to pay more upfront to help lower their utility bills.
The survey revealed that top energy efficient and eco-friendly home features desired by buyers are:
- Energy Star-rated windows and home appliances
- Energy efficient lighting
- Energy Star rating for the entire home
Other popular features buyers wanted include zone heating, purified air appliances, indoor air quality sensors, and connections to the outdoors.
