When you move into a new home, changing your address is one of the first things you need to do to update your information. While changing your address may seem as simple as updating where you receive mail, there are several other places where you will need to change your address as well.
Change Your Address with the U.S. Post Office
To change your address with the U.S. Post Office online, go to https://moversguide.usps.com/mgo/disclaimer. This allows you to change your address online as well as have your mail forwarded to your new address for several months after you move. If you would prefer to do this in person, you can go to your local post office and request a Mover’s Guide.
Update Your Address with the DMV
To learn how to change your address with your state’s DMV, do a Google search for your state’s DMV website to find instructions. If you are moving to a new state, you will also need to apply for a new driver’s license and register your vehicle.
Notify Your Bank and Credit Card Companies
You will also want to update your billing address with your bank and credit card companies. Most credit card companies and banks allow you to do this online by logging into your account.
Inform Your Healthcare Providers
Additionally, call your doctor and dental offices to inform them of your new address so that they have the correct place to send bills or exam reminders. If you are a member of any organizations or receive monthly magazine subscriptions by mail, you will want to also notify these places.
Tell Your Family and Friends
Don’t forget to tell your family and friends. Make a list of everyone you would like to inform and send out notifications via email or by mail.
