2023 Housing Markets With Home Price Bargains

Home prices took off in the last few years as housing inventory continued to dictate the market. Although demand has slowed down and home prices leveled off more recently in response to rising interest rates, affordability remains a key factor for homebuyers. The average home listing price for December’s 20 hottest real estate markets according to Realtor.com® was $313,000 —about 21.8% lower than the national median.

Midwestern markets dominated last year’s hottest markets list. Ten out of the twenty metropolitan areas ranked by Realtor.com® were in Ohio, Wisconsin, Illinois, and Kansas. Of these states, Ohio had the strongest showing with five locales on the list: Columbus, Dayton, Akron, Canton, and Cincinnati.

Akron (OH), Canton (OH), and Rockford (IL) stand out for featuring the lowest median listing prices - all below $200,000. The Midwest not only offers homebuyers a chance to save money, but also more spacious homes compared to other parts of the country, such as the Northeast and the West Coast.

Other metro areas with median listing prices below $300,000 include Rochester (NY), Oshkosh (WI), Dayton (OH), Topeka (KS), and Kingsport (TN).

If you are considering moving to one of these cities, you might want to act quickly. Properties in the hottest markets sell faster and draw more views than the average home across the United States. To view the complete list, click here.
