The news site Insider asked interior designers for insights into this year's trends. Here are five design fads you can expect to see flourish in 2023:

Zellige tiles: A Zellige tile is a handcrafted mosaic tile made from clay found in Morocco. This tilework has gained popularity across social media and will continue to build momentum throughout 2023. As designer Amanda Barnes of Amanda Barnes Interiors explained to Insider, “the rough textures and refined aesthetic create an elevated focal point without needing additional layers in a room.”

Bold, unexpected colors: According to Barnes via Insider, “moody colors, especially on the wall, can create the right vibe before you set the table or ease into your favorite sofa.” Expect to see more saturated shades like “Viva Magenta” and “Raspberry Blush” popping up in 2023.

Accent walls: Accent walls can liven up a room and add a touch of dimension and texture. There are many ways to create an accent wall from wood paneling to wallpaper. If you go with a wooden accent wall, “make sure you're using vertical slats as they give a roof a lift, and make small spaces feel more intimate and large spaces feel more inviting. Avoid using reclaimed wood, which will make your home look dated,” recommended interior designer Rudolph Diesel to Insider.

Modernist curves: Watch out for curved corners and arched shapes in 2023. "Things like rounded furniture allow for a different, bold style without looking garish or unsightly," said Diesel.

Vintage furniture: Vintage or antique furniture will be making a comeback this year. Used furniture can add character to your home and will often cost less than new furniture. Additionally, investing in used pieces can help mitigate the human impact on the environment and reduce carbon emissions, making them a sustainable choice.
